The BGC was founded in 1853 and is a major Evangelical Christian denomination with 879 churches around the world. The BGC has its International headquarters in Arlington Heights, Illinois. It operates Harvest Publishing House from that location as well.. The Great Lakes Baptist Conference is one of thirteen districts within the BGC.

The GLBC includes all of Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This district includes approximately 100 churches, two camps, a Loan and Investment Fund, Pastoral and growth resources, ministry opportunities and support for seniors, women, and teens; and a Church Planting Committee.
